Blazers Stay Alive in GNAC Tournament After 10-5 Victory Over Lasers

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Elms College Baseball team advanced to game 7 in the tournament to compete against the team who fell in Game 6. Blazers were victorious early in the day after surging to a 10-5 win over the #3 seed, the Lasell University Lasers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Colby Arnold (Waterford, CT) began the day on the mound for the Blazers throwing for a full 5 innings striking out 3 batters. TJ Alves (Ludlow, MA) would step on the hill to finish out the game for the Blazers also throwing three strikeouts, allowing only one hit in the four innings thrown.

The Lasers were able to capitalize in the second inning after the first two batters reached on fielding errors. P. Clare performed a SAC bunt to advance both runners into prime scoring positions with only one out in the inning. M. Paharik grounded out to second, recording the second out of the inning but sending home the lead runner to chalk up Lasells first run of the game. 1-0 Lasers heading into the third inning.

It wasn't until the fourth inning that the Blazers were able to send a run home after Austin Roy (Cromwell, CT) singled through the right side advancing Tyler Galenski (Wilbraham, MA) to tie the game up 1-1.

The fifth inning was a big at bat for both teams beginning with the Blazers. After smart base running and a throwing error by the Lasers, Elms was able to send home two quick runs. George Chaya Jr. (Methuen, MA) singled with a bunt up the third baseline, advancing to third on the throwing error sending home Seamus Higgins (Rutland, MA) to get the inning started (2-1). Galenski smacked the ball down the left field line for an RBI double with Chaya scoring the second run of the inning (3-1). With the bases loaded after Aaron Young was hit by a pitch and Josh Nohilly (Bristol, CT) was awarded a base on ball, Galenski would score the third run of the game after a wild pitch to the backstop advanced both himself and Young. Finishing the inning 4-1 leading into the bottom of the 5th.

Lasell would rally in the fifth inning with a three hit, four run inning causing another lead change in the semifinal game, score at the bottom of the fifth 5-4 lasers.

The Blazers would regain the lead after a 2 run inning in the top of the 6th with an RBI from both Chaya and Young to send home the tying and leading runners. (6-5 Blazers)

The righty pitcher, TJ Alves would record three consecutive 1-2-3 innings to hold the Lasers to zero runs and zero hits in the 6th, 7th and 8th innings.

Elms would add two more runs in the 7th inning and a final two in the ninth to secure a 5 run lead over the Lazers. 

In the bottom of the ninth the Lasers' T. Callahan would record the final hit of the game for Lasell.

The Elms College Baseball team would secure the semifinal elimination game victory of 10-5 advancing them to the second round of semifinals where they will be competing against the Anna Maria AMCATS.
