Elms Baseball Cap Their Season Off in the GNAC Semifinals

PROVIDENCE, RI - Elms College Baseball compete in their final game Saturday afternoon after a hard fought battle against the Anna Maria College AMCATS where they fell to a final score of 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The semifinal elimination game remained scoreless for the first three innings as both teams kept it to 1-2-3 inning to begin. The Blazers had a high potential scoring opportunity in the second inning after a fielding error and then a base on balls, loaded the bases with two outs. AMCATS pitcher M. Shorey would close the inning with a strikeout swinging to keep the Blazers at zero runs.

It wasn't until the fourth inning that the Blazer's chalked up their first run of the game with a base knock through the left side by Seamus Higgins (Rutland, MA) to send home Justin Miller (Prospect, CT). Blazers lead 1-0 at the end of the fourth inning.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth the AMCATS' J. Marifiote would reach first due to an error by the Blazer's second basemen to send home the tying unearned run. Closing out the 5th, the game now tied 1-1.

The AMCATS would record a three hit and two run inning in the bottom of the 6th for the first lead change of the game. The Blazers put in Camden Murphy (Berlin, CT) relieving senior Austin Roy (Cromwell, CT) from the mound for the final batter of the inning. (3-1 AMCATS)

George Chaya Jr. (Methuen, MA) was awarded a base on balls, followed by a fielder's error allowing Galenski to reach first. Both advanced on a throwing error by the pitcher, now sitting with Chaya on third and Galenski at second with one out. Aaron Young (Somers, CT) would also be awarded a base on balls to load the bases. Roy up to bat would fly out to right fielder for a sacrifice fly sending home Chaya to turn the game into a one run differential (3-2). Galenski and Young would both advance on wild pitches, sitting at third and second with two outs. The AMCATS would close out the inning before the tying or leading run could score.

The Blazers and AMCATS would remain at a 3-2 game till the final inning.

Galenski would kick start the inning staying ahead of the count reaching first on a walk, Nate Kelley (Hadley, MA) would pinch run for Galenski. Young would follow suit and also be awarded a base on balls, runners at first and second with no outs. Roy would pop out to the pitcher for the first out, Kelley advanced to third on a throwing error by the pitcher. After being hit by a pitch Josh Nohilly (Bristol, CT) would take first base, loading the bases with Young at second and Kelley at third. AMCATS would bring C. Santos to the mound relieving C. Francesconi. Miller would see the new pitcher first, striking out swinging recording the second out of the inning. CJ Moriarty (Glastonbury, CT) steps to the plate after pinch hitting for Chase Prestia (Newington, CT). The junior righty would catch a piece of the ball popping it up in the infield for a fielder's choice with Kelley thrown out at home for the final out of the game.

The Blazers would fall in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Semifinals 3-2 for the final against the Anna Maria AMCATS. Anna Maria College advance to the Championship where they will face the Johnson and Wales University Wildcats.
