Baseball Sweep Conference Double Header Against Chargers

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College Baseball team was victorious on Saturday, securing both Conference double header games against the Colby-Sawyer Chargers. Blazers win 6-5 after an eleven inning first game, followed by a 7-1 second game.

How it Happened

After going into extra innings the Blazer Baseball team was able to secure the first game win in the bottom of the 11 with a walk off single to center field from senior Tyler Galenski (Wilbraham, MA). 

Colby-Sawyer had a powerful fifth inning recording four hits and three runs to boost them to a 5-3 lead over the Blazers. The Chargers recorded runs batted in (RBI) from M. Lewis, M. McLeer, and B. Brennan.

In the bottom of the fifth the Blazers responded to the Chargers by recording a 3 hit inning and 2 RBI to tie up the score 5-5. The Elms nine made movement on the bases with a single from Austin Roy (Cromwell, CT) and a double to right field by Seamus Higgins (Rutland, MA) to both send home runners for the Blazers. 

For the next six innings Junior Camden Murphy (Berlin, CT) headed to the mound for the Blazers, relieving the Kyle Sebastyanski (Auburn, MA). Both the Blazers and the Chargers played grit defense only allowing the other a couple hits an inning. 

In the eighth inning the Blazers ended the Chargers at bat with a double play but the center fielder, Higgins. The Junior from Rutland made the first out and sent the ball to Aj Cook (Mendon, MA) who tagged the runner out at third for the final out of the inning.

Tyler Galenski ended the top of the ninth for Colby-Sawyer when he caught C. O'Brien stealing, for a third out at second.

Fast forward to the final at bat for the Blazers in the bottom of the eleventh inning. With the bases loaded and no outs, Galenski steps up to the plate. The senior sends the ball out to center field to send home the winning run, for another walk off game for the Blazers.

Elms College secures the conference win 6-5 in the bottom of the eleventh.

How it Happened

Due to the first game running into extra innings the second game was only a seven inning game for the conference double header. 

The Blazers were able to create a marginal lead after the first two innings recording six runs over the Chargers one (6-1).

Elms RBI included from Aaron Young (Somers, CT) and Chase Pretia (NEwington, CT) in the first inning. Followed by two from Cook and Galenski in the second inning to post a four run at bat for the Blazers.

Henry Rondon (Ansonia, CT) pitched for the Blazers recording only 4 hits, 1 run and 8 strikouts against the Chargers.

For the Blazers final at bat Cook sent home the seventh run of the game with a fly out to right field to send home Nason Kelly home, final score 7-1.

The Elms College Baseball team ended the Sunday double header securing both Coference wins.
