Blazers Drop Playoff Game To Wildcats

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Elms College Baseball team came up short in the second round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference to the Johnson & Wales Wildcats, final score 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Thursday, May 4th the Elms College Baseball team competed in the second round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference playoffs at Johnson & Wales University where they fell to a final score of 2-0 to the Wildcats.

Junior Henry Rondon, a righty pitcher from Ansonia, CT threw an 8 inning game for the Blazers recording 6 strikeouts, letting up 6 hits and allowing 2 runs in with an era of 1.13 for the day. 

In the third inning the Blazers had a good chance of chalking up a run on the board, Justin Miller (Prospect, CT) hit a base knock to left field to start off the inning, and Blake Bastos (Mineola, NY) was awarded a base on ball advancing Miller to second. Seamus Higgins (Rutland, MA) placed a bunt perfectly up the third baseline to load the bases with no outs in the inning. Wildcats pitcher A. Vining was able to close out the third with three consecutive outs with a strikeout swinging, backwards K and a fly out to center field to continue their 1-0 lead heading into the fourth inning.

JWU's pitcher Vining threw a nine inning game recording 10 strikeouts and holding the Blazers to only three hits in the playoff game. The Wildcats scored runs in the bottom of the first and 8th innings to secure their 2-0 win over the Blazers. 

Despite falling to the Johnson and Wales Wildcats the Elms College baseball team will compete on Saturday, May 6th in the semi finals. The Blazers have one life left in the playoffs and they will go up against the Lasell University Lasers in the losers bracket at 10:30AM on Saturday.
