Baseball Split Double Header Against Raiders

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College Baseball team went 1-1 on the day against the Rivier University Raiders. Coming up with the 5-3 victory in the first game, followed by a 12-9 loss in game two on Sunday, April 2nd.

HOW IT HAPPENED

 

Josh Guilmartin started on the mound for the Blazers, recording 5 strikouts and only letting up 7 hits and 3 runs against the Rivier Raiders.

The Raiders were able to record two of their three runs in the first inning with a two RBI hit from P. Young. The Blazers quickly rebudled the Raiders first at bat, sending home three runs. Aaron Young () singled sending home Aj Cook (Mendon, MA) to get the Blazers on the board early in the inning. Followed by Tyler Galenski (Wilbraham, MA) who sent the ball in the gap sending home both Young and George Chaya () to record to RBI. The Blazers led at the top of the second inning by one, 3-2.

In the second inning the Blazers sent home two more runs with an RBI from Chaya. The fifth run to score for Elms was off of a wild pitch where Chaya succesfully made it home from third. (5-2)

In seven inings the Blazers were able to record 9 stolen bases against the Rivier University Raiders.

In the top of the 6th Raiders z. Tavares sent home P. Young for their final run of game 1.

The Blazers would secure the first game win, 5-3 over the Rivier University Raiders.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blazers started off game two with a 3-0 lead after an RBI from Young, Cook and Miller in the first four innings. 

The Raiders' J. Boudreau doubled sending home J. Plamondon to get Rivier on the board. The Blazers ended the at bat for the Raiders leaving two runners in base, score heading into the bottom of the fifth 3-1.

After a a big at bat by the Raiders in the top of the 6th they were able to send home four runs to surpass the Blazers 5-3. The Blazers were unable to answer back after the Raiders recorded a 1-2-3 inning.

Rivier continued their success from the batters box recording 2 more hits and 3 runs to grow their lead over the Blazers 8-3 in the top of the 7th. 

Leading off for the Blazers in the bottom of the 7th was Chase Prestia (Newington, CT) who recorded a base hit, followed by another base hit from Seamus Higgins (Rutland, MA) advancing Prestia to second. Cook was able to get some major movement on the bases after a single to the gap in center field to send home Prestia and advance Higgins to second (8-4).  

With the bases loaded and one out, T. Galenski sent the ball just over the second baseman to send home the second run of the inning (8-5). The Blazers continued their batting success as Austin Roy (Cromwell, CT) grounded the ball passed the shortstop to send home two more runs for the Blazers (8-7). With two more RBI spread down the lineup from Justin Miller (Prospect, CT) and Prestia to finish the inning with 6 runs added to thier score, now leading 9-8.

The Blazers held onto the one run lead up until the ninth inning when the Raiders recorded six hits and sent four runs home. Vinny Buono (Springfield, MA) ended the at bat for the Raiders with a strike out to now get the Blazers up to bat for their final attempt at making a comeback. 

Colby Arnold (Waterford, CT) started the game on the mound for the Blazers pitching 5 innings, he was relieved by Justin Saad (Waterford, CT) who stayed on the hill for an inning and a half. The Blazers would finish the game with Xandar Karadimas (Granby, CT) and Buono splitting time in the final two innings. 

Elms would fall to a 1-2-3 inning to end the game 2 of the double header 12-9 for the final score.
