Walk-Off Lifts Blazers Over Pride, 10-9

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College Baseball Team secure their first home win after AJ Cook (Mendon, MA) is walked in the bottom of the ninth to send home the winning run; Blazers win 10-9 over the Springfield College Pride.

How it Happened

Blazers Baseball were down 9-5 heading into the top of the ninth to make a quick turn around and double their score in the bottom of the final inning to secure the non conference win over the Springfield College Pride, 10-9. 

Springfield College opened up the first inning with RBI from M. Barrett, R. Sorgi and M. Nofri to lead 3-0 against the Blazers. 

In the second inning the Pride were able to add another run to their score off of an single RBI to center field by C. Maynard, leading 4-0. The Blazers had a powerful inning to tie up the score 4-4 after hits by Austin Roy (Cromwell, CT), Chase Pretia (Newington, CT), Aaron Young (Somers, CT) and Aj Cook (Mendon, MA). Cook with the final hit of the inning to send home both Felix Gutierrez (Holyoke, MA) and Young home for the tying runs (4-4).

Big at bats for the Blazers short stop as Cook sends home the leading runner after singling to left field for another RBI in the bottom of the fourth, Blazers leading 5-4. 

Colby Arnold (Waterford, Ct) started on the mound for the Blazers holding the Pride to zero runs in both the 3rd and 4th inning. Gino Tarantino would relieve Arnold from the mound at the top of the 5th inning. 

The Pride take back the lead in the top of the fifth after cracking two hits and sending home 5 runs to jump the score to 9-5, Springfield hits from L. DiMauro and M. Barrett. TJ Alves (Ludlow, MA) steps onto the hill for the Blazers for Tarantino mid inning. The Blazers are held to no runs in the bottom of the fifth.

In the top of the 7th inning their is a final pitching change for the Blazers as Justin Saad (Waterford, CT) takes his position on the mound.

The game is at a stand still, 9-5 at the top of the ninth after the Blazers record a 1-2-3 inning. 

With a walk and two base hits, the bases are loaded for the Blazers with no outs at the bottom of the ninth. Austin Roy manages to catch a piece of the ball sending it to center field for a routine pop fly, recording the first out of the inning.

Pretia steps up to the plate and reaches due to an error on the Prides short stop sending home Cook. With hits from Young and Cj Moriarty (Glastonbury, CT) the Blazers are only down one run with the bases loaded, 9-8. Seamus Higgins (Rutland, MA) is granted a walk to send home the tying run for the Blazers. 

After a strikeout swinging the Blazers are back to the top of the lineup with Cook at the plate with two outs and the bases loaded. The shortstop reads the ball great and is walked to secure the winning run against the Springfield Pride.
