Galenski Records 4 Hits in Loss Against Bears

NEW LONDON, CT- The Elms College Baseball team came up short against the Coast Guard Bears on Thursday, April 6th with a final score of 11-6.

Records: Bears (6-11, 0-3) | Blazers (13-6, 3-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Elms Baseball team battled against the Bears for 9 innings, with an RBI from both Tyler Galenski (WIlbraham, MA) and Austin Roy (Cromwell, CT) to start off the game 2-0 in favor of the Blazers. Elms would drop the lead in the bottom of the third, where Coast Gaurd would then go on to secure the win sending home 11 runs over the Blazers 6.

In the first inning the Blazers were able to bring home two runners. Starting off with a single to center field from Tyler Galenski (Wilburham, MA) sending Cook home, Galenski was thrown out at second. Due to a walk setting the Blazers up with two runners, one at first and second, Roy was able to send home the second run after sending a ball to the gap in center field. The Blazers continued their 2-0 lead into the third inning.

The Coast Guard Bears had a consistent four innings recording nine runs with 3 in the third, 1 run in the fourth, 5 runs in the fifth and the final two runs in the sixth.

Due to an error in the bottom of the fifth the Bears were able to send home two more runs recording a five run inning to boost them to a 9-2 lead.

CJ Moriarty (Glastonbury, CT) would reach first on an error advancing the base runners and sending home the Blazers 3rd run of the game. With the bases now loaded Blake Bastos (Mineola, NY) would reach after four balls to send home the final run of the inning, score 9-4 in the bottom of the 6th.

The Bears would add two more final runs to their score in the bottom of the sixth. (11-4)

In the top of the seventh with runners on first and second Galenski would hit another ball to center field for his second RBI, both runners advance and then steal with George Chaya recording the fifth run for the Blazers. (11-5) There is one out and runners are on the corners, Roy will single to center feld to send home the Blazers final run of the game, score now 11-6. 

For the final two innings the Blazers and Bears would remain scoreless, finishing out the non-conference game 11-6 with Coast Guard securing the win.

Baseball is back at Mackenzie Stadium for a Conference double header on Saturday, April 8th against the Norwich University Cadets. First pitch will be thrown at 1:30PM followed by a 3:30PM start for the second game.
