Blazers Rally in the Fifth to Takedown Lynx

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College Baseball team secured the non conference win on Wednesday night over the Lesley University Lynx at Mackenzie Stadium, final score 5-3.

BASICS

Score: Lynx 3 | Blazers 5

Records: Lynx (6-9) | Blazers (11-3)

How it Happened

Due to a first at bat triple from A. Budorick, Lynxs' I. Dempsey was able to send their first runner home off of a single early in the lead off inning. The Blazers got their first out of the inning when catcher Tyler Galenski (Wilbrahma, MA) made a throw to first as the Lynx's runner attempted to steal to second, Josh Nohilly (Bristol, CT) would send the ball to Jake Slahtosky (South Windsor, CT) at first to tag Dempsey out at second. To end the inning the Blazers recorded routine fly out and pop up catch to record the final two outs of the first. Elms was able to answer back during their at bat  with a double from Austin Roy (Cromwell, CT) to send home Aaron Young (Somers, CT) to record the tying run, 1-1 at the bottom of the first.

The designated hitter for the Lynx, A. Gryniewicz was able to reach second when the ball took a bad hop in the outfield sending home, J. Samela recording their second run of the game. With runners at second and third the Lynx were able to capitalize off of a passed ball, Gryniewicz advancing to third and T. faison recording their third run leading 3-1 at the end of the half inning.

For the continuation of the game it remained a scoreless inning for the third and fourth with the Lynx holding the lead at 3-1.

In the bottom of the fifth the Blazers recorded a big inning where they rallied a comeback. It started with Seamus Higgins (Rutland, MA) scoring off of a wild pitch with two outs to chalk up a run for the Blazers (3-2). After staying ahead of the count and reaching first after a walk, AJ Cook (Mendon, MA) used his speed and successfully stole to second to gain a base advantage against the Lynx. Young recorded a base hit to advance Cook to third. The Blazers were now sitting in a good scoring position with both baserunners sitting on the corners and Galenski up to bat. Just shy of the warning track and a foot inside fair territory, the catcher was able to send home both base runners for a two bagger and a double RBI, Blazers take the lead 4-3. For the final hit of the inning and the pitchers second hit of the game, Roy was able to catch a piece of the action finding the gap sending home Galenski to jump their lead, 5-3 at the end of the fifth inning.

The Blazers were able to hold the Lynx to only three runs for the rest of the game, securing the non-conference 5-3 victory over the Lesley University Lynx.
