Arnold Records 4 Strikeouts in Double Header Split With Wildcats

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Elms College Baseball team earned the double header split against the Johnson & Wales Wildcats Sunday afternoon after dropping the first game of the twin bill.

HOW IT HAPPENED

 

The Blazers managed to chalk up a run in the top of the fourth inning from a sacrifice fly out to center field from Josh Nohilly (Bristol, CT). 

The Wildcats managed to build their lead off of two four run innings in the third and fifth. Right fielder E. Leone led the Wildcats with three hits, while R. Hasson sent home 3 runners to lead the team in RBI's.

The Blazers recorded 7 hits, just shy of the Wildcats 9. Niether team recorded any errors in the field for the game one of the double header.

Josh Guilmartin (East Granby, CT) led on the hill for the Blazers and threw for four innings before Xander Karadimas (Granby, CT) relieved him for a third of an inning. For the final two innings Trevor Nohilly (Bristol, CT) and Ethan Sgarlata (Ellington, CT) split time on the Mound finishing out the game for the Blazers.

The Blazers fell 11-1 to the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Colby Arnold (Waterford, CT) stood on the hill for the Blazers for five innings where the righty sophomore let up five hits, one run, and four strikouts against the 24 batters he faced. Vinny Buono (Springfield, MA) would relieve Arnold after five to throw for the next three innings before Camden Murphy (Berlin, CT) would finish out the final inning to save the win over the Wildcats.
 
Elms College knocked in a run in the top of the second inning. With a single to the gap inbetween right and center, Justin Miller (Prospect, CT) was able to send home the first run of the scoreless game. 
 
The Wildcats would respond in the bottom of the second with a ground out to second base from Guerra to send home Botelho to tie the score 1-1.
 
Nohilly would add another RBI on the day after reaching first on and error causing movement on the bases to send home the leading run. 
 
For the next four innings remained scoreless for both teams. 
 
In the top of the ninth inning, Elms College boosted their lead by two after Seamus Higgins (Rutland, MA) recorded a sacrafice fly out to center field. Aj Cook (Mendon, MA) would record a base hit off of a bunt sending home the final run of the inning for the Blazers. 
 
 
Elms College scattered 10 hits in the game, Chase Pretia (Newington, CT) and Young recorded the only doubles earning their win against the Wildcats to finish out the double header 1-1 for the day.
