Chaya Breaks Program Season Stolen Base Record In Conference Split

CHICOPEE, MA - Sophomore George Chaya Jr. (Methuen, MA) broke the Elms College Baseball Program Season Stolen Base Record Monday night at Mackenzie Stadium against the Lasell University Lasers. The Blazers split the conference doubleheader falling 9-7 in game one and taking the game two victory, 12-2 for the final.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Sophomore George Chaya Jr. (Methuen, MA) started off the game recording the record breaking steal for most stolen bases in a single season. The right fielder for the Blazers ended the double header with five stolen bases, seated first in the program with 31 stolen bases.

Kyle Sebastyanski (Auburn, MA) opened up the first game on the hill for the Blazers, the junior threw for 5 and two thirds innings before Camden Murphy took to the mound. Sebastyanski recorded one strikeout, letting up 6 runs and 10 hits while on the mound.

The Blazers were able to start off the first inning with an RBI from both Tyler Galenski (Wilbraham, MA) and Aaaron Young (Somers, CT). The Blazers continued to put runs on the board in the second, fourth and fifth innings. 

Lasell Lasers caused a lead change in the top of the second inning putting up 4 runs, after a three RBI home run from C. Bulk over the left field fence (4-2 Lasers). 

Over a consecutive three innings the Lasers continued to add runs to the board, holding onto a lead of 6-5 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning.

CJ Moriarty (Glastonbury, CT) tattooed the ball over the center fielders head for a double sending home the tying run for the Blazers. Seamus Higgins would sacrifice bunt to advance Moriarty into a high potential scoring position at third base. Aj Cook (Mendon, MA) would follow suit with a sacrifice fly out to the left fielder sending home Moriarty for the leading run, 7-6 Blazers heading into the 6th inning.

Inning six would remain scoreless from both teams, Murphy would come to the mound to pitch for the Blazers.

With the bases loaded the Lasers would send home the tying run after T. Callahan is hit by a pitch. B. Baumann would single, sending home two runs for a lead change over the Blazers with a score of 9-7.

The Blazers would fall to a final of 9-7 after 7 innings of play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In game two the Blazers would be able to capitalize in the bottom of the eighth to secure the 12-2 win over the Lasers. 

Josh Nohilly (Bristol, CT) led the Blazers with 3 hits, recording one RBI in game two. Chaya, Cook, and Higgins would all add two hits apiece to help the Blazers load the bases. Senior Tyler Galenski would crack one hit against the Lasers while sending home 3 runs to lead the Blazers in RBI's for game two.

At the end of the sixth inning the Blazers had built up a lead of 5-2 over the Lasers. 

In the final inning the Lighting would crack 5 hits and send home seven runners to secure the 10 run lead over the Lasers, ending the doubleheader splitting with Lasell University.
