Men's Golf Finishes 14th at 2013 NEIGA Championship

BREWSTER, Mass. - The Elms College men's golf team placed 14th overall following day two action at the 79th annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship at the Captains Course in Brewster, Mass.

The NEIGA has been in existence since 1934 and includes 47 member colleges and universities in New England and New York and is considered to be the oldest and largest collegiate golf tournament. It is unique in that NCAA Divisions I, II, III and club teams compete together.

Division I Central Connecticut State University shot a two-day total of 597 to win the overall championship. It was three strokes better than runner-up University of Rhode Island (URI). Day one medalist Monte Mullen of Central Connecticut State took home the individual medalist honors by defeating URI's Joseph Leavitt on the second playoff hole. Both players finished the two-day tournament with a one-under-par 143.

Bentley University won the Division II title with a score of 620, besting second place Franklin Pierce University by four shots. Bentley's Jon Stoddard was the DII medalist with a two-round total of 149.

Western New England University took home the Division III crown with a 616, three strokes better than runner-up Husson University. Husson's Bill Hutchins was the DIII medalist (and 3rd overall) with a two-round total of 146.

In the Club Division Providence College defeated University of New Hampshire 628 to 636. Providence's Jamie Ferullo was the medalist with a combined total of 155.

The Blazers shot a combined 328 on Sunday, and 640 over the two days to finish 14th overall in the field of 37 teams. 

Elms' senior Henry Fall (Harpswell, Maine) shot day two score of 77, followed by freshman Chris Miele (South Hadley, Mass.) who was two strokes behind with a round of 79.

Senior Tyler Cudnik (Hampden, Mass.) carded a day two score of 80, junior Nick Smith (Enfield, Conn.) added a round of 92, and freshman Brian Benson (Agawam, Mass.) rounded out the Blazers' efforts with a 97.

Monday's action at the NEIGA Championship concludes the fall portion of Elms' 2013-14 season. The Blazers will resume action in the Spring of 2014.
