Chargers Best Blazers in Conference Play

CHICOPEE, MA- The Chargers were able to knock down a jumper in the final seconds to lock in the win over the Blazers in Picknelly Arena Wednesday night, 85-83 for the final score.

How it Happened

The Chargers controlled the pace of the game for the first thirteen minutes of play, hitting 4 three's with three from Scott Lampron. Lampron went 3-3 from outside the arc in the first half alone, cashing in 13 points for the Chargers. with 7:53 on the clock, the Blazers are down 29-18 when they begin to go on a run and shut down the Chargers offensive control. After a 0-9 point run the Blazers were able to bring the game to a one possesion game with four minutes left in the half. Keeping it a tight game the Blazers were unable to grab hold of the lead heading intot he half. Colby Sawyer had a field goal percentage of 55.2% followed by a 50% 3-Pt percentage, while the Blazers were not too far behind shooting a 40.6% FG percentage with a 27.3% 3-pt percentage. Decpite Elm's FG success rate they were able to get to the line nine times in the first half adding seven free points to the board. Colby-Sawyer continues to lead heading into the half, 41-36.

To start the half in just under a minute, Dominique Threatt (Birmingham, AL) controlled the next three possesions by recording a fast break layup off of a steal, a defensive board, and a made three point shot to serge the Blazers to a 43-41 lead over the Chargers. Kevin Cummings, Colby-Sawyers guard answered back just seconds with a made 3 pt shot grabbing back the lead for the Chargers. Tahquell Cadle (Bridgeport, CT) knocks down two free throws to bump the Blazers back into the lead (47-46) and also start them on a 0-9 point run (56-46), creating a ten point lead over the Chargers. The Blazers had a created a two possesion lead over the Chargers until Kevin Cummings hit a 3 pt shot to bring the game to a one point difference with the Elms still in the lead, 83-82. Teron Griffin (Harlem, NY) went to the line for the Blazers with just under four second son the clock, but was unable to secure the free points. With the possesion in the Chargers hands they were able to inbound it and get over the half court line to call for a timeout. Just three seconds remain on the clock, the Blazers up by one they enter back in the game playing a tight man to man defense. Trying to deny any scoring opportunity the ball gets inbounded and with two dribbles Kevin Cummings creates enough space between him and the Blazers defender to release a baseline jumber to knock down the buzzer beater securing the win (84-83).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Tahquell Cadle had a career high of 33 points, he also recorded 11 boards, dished out 4 assists and snatched 5 steals. He also went 14-15 from the free throw line.
  • Jacob Cancel also recorded a season high of 10 points
