Lasers Come Up With the Win Over Blazers

NEWTON, MA - The Men's Basketball team battled hard in the conference matchup against the Lasell University Lasers Tuesday night in the Athletic Center but fell 87-75 for the final.

How it happened

The Blazers opened up the first half leading 28-13 with 9:40 left on the clock after Trey Sabia (West Simsbury, CT) sank his first and only three of the half. Graduate student Tahquell Cadle (Bridgeport, CT) put up 10 points for the Blazers and racked up 4 steals in the first twenty minutes. As a team Elms went 4-5 from the foul line shooting at a 80% as well as knocking down 6-9 from outside the arc going 66.7% from the 3pt line. The Lasers recorded two more rebounds than the Blazers did both teams doing a great job defensivly denying second chance opportunities for the other team. The Blazers were able to cause Lasell to turn the ball over eleven times and were able to draw eight fouls. Elms headed into the half leading 38-35.

The second half was a lower scoring game for the Blazers, Cadle continued to lead Elms in points by adding seven more to the board for the Lightning. Elms was not as successful from the foul line only hitting 33.3% (3-9) of the free point opportunities. The Elms men were able to knock down four from the arc, one more than the Lasers were able to hit. Lasell controlled the paint on their defensive end, where they recording all twelve boards. Lasers' EJ Day cashed in 26 points in the second half while also handing out 10 assists collecting a double double in the game. Despite the Blazers high shooting percentages from the first half they were unable to continue the previous success into the final twenty minutes and fell to the Laser 87-75.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • As a team the Blazers went 10-15 from the 3pt line.
  • Dominigue Threat (Birmingham, AL) and Tahquel Cadle both cashed in 17 points
  • Cadle recorded 8 boards, went 3-3 from outside the arc and went 2-2 from the foul line.
