Blazers Edged by the Fighting Tigers

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College Men's Basketball team held a considerable lead heading into the half, up 31-25. The Fighting Tigers did not back down and came back to secure the victory over the Blazers by four measly points, winning 57-53.

How it Happened

Six minutes into the game the Fighting Tigers took on a 10-4 point run against the Blazers. After a couple misshaps under the basket Elms started to knock down some shots, including a made three by Jake Midura (Chicopee, MA) to tie up the score 10-10. With eleven minutes left in the half the Blazers changed the pace of the game, both RJ Mayfield (Springfield, MA) and senior Kalytin Silva (Worcester, MA) recorded three blocks each denying twelve possible SUNY points. With a 66.7% (4/6) from the foul line, 17 rebounds, and three made three point shots by Midura to send the Blazers on a 14-5 point run created a safe lead for the Blazers heading into the half, Elms up 31-25.  

The Fighting Tiger were able to close the gap, tying up the game 35-35 with 14 minutes left in the game, just a minute later SUNY was able to cash in a layup by Andre Starks to take the lead 37-35. Tahquell Cadle (Bridgeport, CT) enters the game and immediatly gets into the action causing a SUNY turnover stealing the ball for a quick transition to into a fast break layup to tie the game 37-37. The Fighting Tiger's capitalized off of rebounds and Blazer turnovers going on a 13-2 point run to jump their lead 50-39 with five minutes left in the game. in just four minutes the game changes from a fifteen point game to a two point game. Cadle finds his rythm and secures 9 points to help the Blazers close the gap and sophomore Trey Sabia (West Simsbury, CT) makes two huge defensive rebounds that help change the Blazers pace, score now 55-53 Elms down by two with 1:30 on the clock. Elms tries to get a shot from outside the arc but are unable to sink one, the Blazers foul to save them some time, but are unable to get the final points needed and fall short 57-53 to the SUNY Cobleskills Fighting Tigers.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Klaytin Silva registering 4 blocks and 8 rebounds, leading the Blazers on their defensive end
  • Tahquell Cadle going 3-3 from the foul line and 6-11 from the field totalling 15 points leading the Blazers.
  • Jake Midura hitting all three of the Blazers three pointers during the contest.
  • Trey Sabia recording 2 defensive boards in the final minutes to help the team make a comeback.
  • The Team went 12-15 from the line with a high of 80% in free throws.
