Men’s Volleyball Swept In Day Two Action At Vassar Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Elms College junior outside
hitter Mike Ryan (Ludlow, Mass.) and sophomore
opposite hitter Mike Kleckner (Bethlehem, Pa.)
each notched a team-high eight kills against Johnson & Wales,
but the Blazers were swept in both matches during day two action at
the 2010 Vassar College men’s volleyball invitational in
Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
After finishing tournament action with an 0-4 record, Elms falls
to 4-13 overall.
Elms fell 3-0 (30-14, 30-9, 30-0 forfeited third set) to host
Vassar College in the opening match of the day, and then lost 3-0
(30-28, 30-22, 30-20) to Johnson & Wales in its final match of
the day.
Martin handed out 28 assists against Johnson & Wales and added
a solo block, while Ryan chipped in a match-best 15 digs in the
losing effort.
Freshman outside hitter Stephen Cameron (Newington,
Conn.) downed five kills and collected eight digs, while
Kleckner dug seven balls against the Wildcats. Freshman middle
hitter Wilfrido Fermin (Bronx, N.Y.) added four
kills and assisted on two blocks.
Against Vassar, Ryan handed out five assists in the loss and added
seven digs.
Elms returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 27 with a tri-match at
MIT with Emmanuel College. The Blazers will take on the Engineers
at 11:00 a.m. and will square off against the Saints at 1:00 p.m.
