Men’s Volleyball Swept In Day One Action At Vassar Invitational
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Elms College sophomore
setter Mike Martin (Enfield, Conn.) handed out 17
assists against Philadelphia Biblical University but the Blazers
were swept in day one action of the 2010 Vassar College men’s
volleyball invitational tournament.
Elms was swept 3-0 (30-9, 30-19, 30-12) by Nazareth College in its
first match of the night, and fell 3-0 (30-14, 30-21, 30-15) to
Philadelphia Biblical in the nightcap.
Against Philadelphia Biblical, Martin found junior outside hitter
Mike Ryan (Ludlow, Mass.) for a team-high six
kills, and sophomore opposite hitter Mike Kleckner
(Bethlehem, Pa.) for five.
Ryan also added a team-best six digs, while freshman outside
hitter Stephen Cameron (Newington, Conn.) added
five digs and four kills in the losing effort.
In the opening match against Nazareth, junior outside hitter Ryan
and Kleckner collected a team-high seven digs each, while sophomore
outside hitter Yonalvy Acosta (Holyoke, Mass.)
downed a team-high three kills in the losing effort.
Martin handed out five assists and recorded three solo blocks.
Elms will square off against host Vassar College at 10:00 a.m. on
Saturday, and conclude tournament action against Johnson &
Wales University at 12:00 p.m.
