Acosta, Cameron, Martin Named NECC All-Conference

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College placed three student-athletes on the men’s volleyball New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) All-Conference teams as announced by the organization on Friday.

Sophomore setter/outside hitter Mike Martin (Enfield, Conn.) was named NECC Rookie of the Year and  was also an All-NECC Second Team selection. Martin has dished out 449 assists, downed 19 service aces, totaled 123 digs, amassed 46 total blocks and smashed 58 kills to date in his debut season.

Sophomore outside hitter Yonalvy Acosta (Holyoke, Mass.) was voted to the All-NECC First Team. Acosta leads the squad with 202 kills, averaging 2.59 per set, is first on the team with 63 total blocks (including 34 solo) and ranks second with 169 digs so far this season.

Joining Martin on the All-NECC Second Team is freshman outside hitter Stephen Cameron (Newington, Conn.). Cameron is the team-leader in digs (193) and ranks third on the squad with 143 kills. In his first season, Cameron has also contributed 21 blocks and 27 service aces.

Thus far, Martin has been named NECC Rookie of the Week three times, while Cameron has earned the honor twice. Acosta was tabbed NECC Player of the Week one time earlier this season.
