WESTON, Mass. – Elms College sophomore outside hitter Yonalvy Acosta (Holyoke, Mass.) smashed 11 kills and hit at a .476 clip to help lift the Blazers to a 3-0 (30-20, 30-20, 30-17) sweep of Regis College in Wednesday evening’s North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) New England Division men’s volleyball contest in Weston, Mass.

With the win, Elms improves to 5-22 overall, 5-10 in league action, while Regis slides to 4-20 on the season, 0-11 in conference play.

Acosta delivered his 11 kills on 21 swings with just one error, while sophomore opposite hitter Mike Kleckner (Bethlehem, Pa.) downed eight kills, served up four aces and added three total blocks to help the Blazers snap a 14-match losing skid.

Junior outside hitter Mike Ryan (Ludlow, Mass.) notched a team-high 11 digs, and connected for five aces, while sophomore setter Mike Martin (Enfield, Conn.) dished out 33 assists and added four kills in the winning effort.

Acosta, Kleckner and Martin each had two solo blocks in the match, while freshman middle hitter Wilfrido Fermin (Bronx, N.Y.) and freshman outside hitter Stephen Cameron (Newington, Conn.) added six and five kills respectively.

Elms returns to action on Saturday, March 27 at the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Tournament as the fourth seed. The Blazers will take on tournament host and top seed Newbury College at 11:00 a.m.
