Field Hockey Outlasts Becker College, 1-0

LEICESTER, Mass. – Elms College sophomore forward Jaclyn Soderquist (Enfield, Conn.) scored what stood as the game-winner with 19 seconds to play in the first half to help lift the Blazers to a 1-0 win over Becker College in Friday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey game at Alumni Field in Leicester, Mass.

With the win, Elms improves to 6-10 overall, 4-1 in NECC action, while Becker falls to 2-13 overall, 2-2 in league play. The Blazers' sixth win is now the highest win total since the 2008 season.

In a game that was evenly contested with Becker edging Elms in shots, 10-8, the Blazers netted the lone goal of the contest with time winding down in the first half when Soderquist rebounded a shot from sophomore defender Allie LaMonica (Salem, Mass.) and tipped it past the diving Hawks' goalkeeper Gabrielle Gallo (Northport, N.Y.).

Gallo finished with four saves in the losing effort, while Elm's senior net-minder Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) made seven saves in the winning effort.

Elms returns to NECC action on Tuesday, Oct. 23 when it hosts Regis College at 7:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
