Two First Half Goals Lift Field Hockey Past Bay Path College, 2-0

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College sophomore forward Ashley Reid (Enfield, Conn.) and junior midfielder Kayla Narey (South Hadley, Mass.) each scored a goal as the Blazers posted a 2-0 non-conference victory over Bay Path College on Saturday morning at Leary Field.

With the win, Elms improves to 2-7 overall, while Bay Path falls to 0-6 on the season.

With just under 10 minutes to play in the opening stanza, Narey broke a scoreless tie when she received a pass from sophomore forward Meghan Goodrow (Sunderland, Mass.) right in front of the goal and drilled it into the back of the cage to give Elms a 1-0 lead.

Five minutes later sophomore midfielder Hannah O'Brien (Granby, Conn.) played a penalty corner service to junior midfielder Brianna Lyons (Canton, Mass.) who then chipped the ball to Reid who fired in a laser past the Bay Path goalkeeper to extend the Blazers' lead to 2-0 just before intermission.

In the second half, both sides had several opportunities to score, but neither team was able to net a goal in the final 35 minutes of play as Elms' senior goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) made eight of her 11 stops in the second half, while four of Wildcats net-minder Anna Meyer's (Millbrook, N.Y.) six saves came during second half action.

Elms held a slim lead in shots, 13-12 as Narey led the way with four shots on goal, while sophomore forward Jacqueline Soderquist (Enfield, Conn.) added two shots on target.

Elms returns to non-conference action on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Vassar College at 7:00 p.m.
