Framingham State University Edges Field Hockey, 1-0

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College senior goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) notched 17 saves, but Framingham State University's Cassandra Koegel (Groveland, Mass.) scored what stood as the game-winner in the 41st minute of action to lift the Rams to a 1-0 victory over the Blazers in Thursday afternoon's non-conference field hockey game at Leary Field.

With the loss, Elms moves to 4-9 on the season, while Framingham State improves to 8-5 overall.

After a scoreless first half of action that saw Framingham State outshoot Elms, 10-1, the Rams scored early in the second period as Koegel played the ball into the net following a nice touch from Alina Willing (Natick, Mass.) to give Framingham State a 1-0 lead.

That's all the Rams needed as goalkeeper Sarah Ryan (Uxbridge, Mass.) fended off both shots by Elms' junior forward Kayla Narey (South Hadley, Mass.) who registered the Blazers' only two shots on target.

Bonavita, meanwhile was superb between the pipes, turning away 17 of the 19 shots on goal that she faced. Elms' sophomore defender Allie LaMonica (Salem, Mass.) added a defensive save in the losing effort.

Kaitlyn Ranieri (Bellingham, Mass.), Rhea Urbaniak (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Emma Littlefield (Rockport, Mass.) each fired four shots on goal for the Rams.

Elms returns to Leary Field and New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action on Saturday, Oct. 13 when it hosts Anna Maria College at 3:00 p.m.
