Narey, Lawler and Yowell Earn NECC Weekly Honors

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College junior field hockey player Kayla Narey (South Hadley, Mass.) was named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week, while freshman men’s soccer player Gerard Lawler (Langwarrin, Victoria, Australia) and freshman women’s soccer player Marissa Yowell (Ashland, Mass.) were each named NECC Rookie of the Week in their respective sports as announced by the league office on Monday.

Narey earned her first NECC Player of the Week accolade after helping Elms post a 1-1 record during weekly action. Narey scored what proved to be the game-winner in a 2-0 victory over Bay Path College. Narey’s strike against the Wildcats came in the non-conference matchup between the schools which will play an NECC contest in Longmeadow, Mass. later this season.

Lawler was named NECC Rookie of the Week in men’s soccer after he scored what stood as the game-winner in the Blazers’ 2-0 win over conference rival Mitchell College. Lawler played the ball into the net following a corner kick set piece that was set up by sophomore midfielder Josh DiNoto (Branford, Conn.) and sophomore defender Anthony Nitri (Feeding Hills, Mass.). This was Lawler’s first weekly award of the season and the first of his collegiate career.

Yowell also earned her first collegiate rookie of the week honor following Elms’ 1-1 week. Yowell scored three of the team’s four goals during weekly action including both goals in a 2-0 triumph over Southern Vermont College to help the Blazers post their first NECC victory of the season. Yowell also scored in a 4-2 loss at Western New England University in non-conference action.
