Field Hockey Falls to Anna Maria College, 1-0

PAXTON, Mass. – Elms College senior goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) notched 13 saves, but Anna Maria College's Kayla Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.) broke a scoreless tie and netted what proved to be the game-winning goal with just three minutes to play to pace the AMCATS to a 1-0 victory over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon's non-conference field hockey game.

With the loss, Elms moves to 1-6 on the season, while Anna Maria improves to 5-4 overall.

Lapierre found the back of the cage following a well-placed pass from Shannon Looney (Leicester, Mass.) to set up the game's only score.

Despite being outshot 17-3, Elms' defense performed well, limiting the AMCATS to just the one score as Bonavita made eight of her 13 saves in the first 35 minutes of play. Anna Maria goalkeeper Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, N.H.) turned away two shots on goal by Elms – one apiece from sophomore defenders Hannah Hellstein (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Ashley Reid (Enfield, Conn.).

Elms returns to non-conference action on Tuesday, Sept. 25 when it travels to Western New England University for a 7:00 p.m. game.
