Field Hockey Suffers 4-1 Setback at Westfield State University

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Elms College freshman forward Kristina Kopyscinski (Agawam, Mass.) netted a goal and senior goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) notched six saves, but Westfield State University received a two-goal effort from Sarah Pliszka (Enfield, Conn.) and a trio of assists from Liz Hall (Southwick, Mass.) to help pace the Owls to a 4-1 win over the Blazers in Thursday evening's non-conference field hockey game in Westfield, Mass.

With the loss, Elms falls to 1-5 on the season, while Westfield State improves to 4-2 overall.

Pliszka put Westfield on top early, scoring just 1:33 into the contest when she took a pass from Kelly Kenney (Suffield, Conn.) and found the back of the cage for a 1-0 lead.

The Owls maintained its 1-0 lead until intermission before Lauren Tavares (Tiverton, R.I.) extended that advantage to 2-0 2:10 into the second frame and was aided by the first of Hall's three assists.

Pliszka scored her second goal of the contest in the 60th minute of action on a feed from Hall, before Kopyscinski scored Elms' lone tally of the contest to set the score at 3-1 in the 63rd minute of action.

Hall then delivered a pass to Ali Feldman (Manchester, Conn.) and Feldman sealed the 4-1 victory with a scoring strike with 2:09 to play in the game.

Elms returns to action on Saturday, September 22 when it travels to Anna Maria College for a 10:00 a.m. contest with the AMCATS in Paxton, Mass.
