Field Hockey Falls at Western New England University, 6-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Elms College senior goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) made seven saves but Western New England University used two goals each from Brooke Kumnick (Granby, Conn.) and Alyssa Chamberlain (Charlton, Mass.) to help pace the Golden Bears to a 6-0 win over the Blazers in Tuesday evening's non-conference field hockey game in Springfield, Mass.

With the loss, Elms falls to 1-7 overall, while Western New England improves to 3-5 on the season.

The Golden Bears scored three times in each half as Chamberlain scored on an assist from Jaynie Mueller (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Chelsea Haynes (Marstons Mills, Mass.) to give Western New England a 1-0 lead 8:54 into the contest.

A goal by Caitlin Foster (Hyde Park, N.Y.) at the 27:20 mark extended the advantage to 2-0 before Kumnick scored the first of her two strikes in the 33rd minute to lift the edge to 3-0 at intermission.

Kumnick and Chamberlain each scored their second goals of the game 10 minutes into the start of the second stanza and Laura Madaio (Paxton, Mass.) capped the scoring in the 54th minute to seal the 6-0 win for Western New England.

Elms' sophomore forward Tatiana Frizzell (Brattleboro, Vt.) and freshman forward Kristina Kopyscinski (Agawam, Mass.) tallied a shot each in the loss, and Bonavita recorded seven of the team's 11 saves.

Elms returns to action on Saturday, September 29 when it hosts Bay Path College at 11:00 a.m. at Leary Field in a non-conference contest.
