Field Hockey Edges Daniel Webster College, 2-1

NASHUA, N.H. – Elms College junior forward Kayla Narey (South Hadley, Mass.) scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 54th minute of action to help drive the Blazers to a hard-fought, 2-1 victory over Daniel Webster College in Wednesday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey game at Harvey Woods Field in Nashua, N.H.

With the win, Elms improves to 5-10 overall, 3-1 in NECC action, while Daniel Webster falls to 2-10 overall, 1-3 in league play.

After a scoreless first frame, Elms found the back of the cage eight minutes into the second half when sophomore forward Jaclyn Soderquist (Enfield, Conn.) drove in a pass from sophomore forward Meghan Goodrow (Sunderland, Mass.) to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead.

Daniel Webster responded at the 51:07 mark thanks to a scoring strike from Samantha Crooker (Gilford, N.H.) on a feed from Taylor St. Jean (Manchester, N.H.) to even the game at 1-1.

Elms rallied right back when sophomore defender Allie LaMonica (Salem, Mass.) found Narey for her third game-winning goal of the season just 2:26 later.

Daniel Webster, which had been held to just one shot on goal through the first 64 minutes of play, fired four shots at the Blazers in a span of 45 seconds, but Elms' senior net-minder Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) turned away three of the offerings and one shot sailed wide to keep the score set at 2-1.

Soderquist and Narey added two shots on goal each for Elms, while Eagles' goalkeeper Danielle Melanson (Derry, N.H.) made five saves in the losing effort.

Elms returns to conference action on Friday, Oct. 19 when it travels to Becker College for a 4:00 p.m. tilt with the Hawks in Leicester, Mass.
