Bonavita, Smith Garner NECC Weekly Honors

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College senior field hockey goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) and sophomore men’s golfer Nick Smith (Enfield, Conn.) were each named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week in their respective sports as announced by the league office on Monday.

Bonavita helped the Blazers to a 1-1 week notching 24 saves during the two-game stretch, including a sensational 16-save effort in a 2-0 loss to Western Connecticut State University on Sept. 5. In Elms’ 6-2 win over Rivier College on Sept. 8, Bonavita made eight stops and now has 33 for the season. This is Bonavita’s first weekly accolade of the season.

Smith finished his first weekend of action in a tie for individual medalist honors after shooting a combined score of 111 (36-75) during this weekend’s Trinity College Invitational that was shortened by nine holes due to inclement weather. Elms placed third in the field of 12 teams. This is Smith’s first NECC Player of the Week honor of the season.
