Field Hockey Falls To Wheelock, 6-0
CHICOPEE, MA – Elms College freshman
goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, MA)
recorded six more saves in her debut season, but it was Wheelock
College junior Despina Savvoulides’ (Norwalk,
CT) two first half goals that propelled the Wildcats to a
6-0 victory over the Blazers in Wednesday afternoon’s New
England Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey game at Leary
Field.
With the loss, Elms falls to 3-11 overall and 2-5 in conference,
while Wheelock improves to 5-9 on the season and 5-2 in league
action.
Wildcat junior Milbrey Hendrix (Kennett Square,
PA) assisted both Savvoulides’ goals including a
beautiful give-and-go off a penalty corner. With a 2-0 advantage
entering the second half, Wheelock junior Michaela Ross
(Mansfield, MA) made quick work of the defense, scoring in
the first two minutes of the half and extending the Wildcat lead to
3-0.
Wheelock freshman Rachel Robohm (North Easton,
MA) added her fifth goal of the season off a breakaway,
while classmate Chelsey Ballard (Mansfield, MA)
and sophomore Ashley Howard (Gardner, MA) netted a
goal apiece.
Bonavita split the work between the pipes with senior
Danielle Boyer (South Hadley, MA) who made seven
saves in her second half of work. Bonavita added an offensive spark
that took pressure off the Blazer defense. Three Blazers had one
shot apiece.
The Blazers were outshot 34-3 in the contest.
Elms returns to NECC action on Saturday, Oct. 24 facing off
against Daniel Webster in a “senior night” celebration.
The game is slated to start at 1:00 pm at Leary Field.
