CHICOPEE, MA - Elms College freshman goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, MA) made 19 saves, but Anna Maria College sophomore Katie Schebel (Ludlow, MA) scored the Amcats’ lone goal in the opening half to propel Anna Maria to a 1-0 victory over the Blazers in Thursday’s evening’s non-conference field hockey game at Leary Field.

With the loss, Elms falls to 3-9 on the season, while Anna Maria improves to 3-10 record overall.

Schebel scored the game’s only goal when she controlled a deflected ball off Bonavita’s pads and placed it in the back of the net just 12 minutes into the contest.

From there, Bonavita withstood a flurry of shots as Anna Maria outshot Elms 25-3. Schebel and junior forward Emily Nugent (Worcester, MA) registered seven shots apiece; while senior forward Angela Giuffrida (Leicester, MA) attempted five shots.

Elms senior forward Tomie Lafond (Hatfield, MA) led the squad with two shots.

Elms returns to action Saturday, Oct. 17 when they host Becker College in a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) battle. Game time is slated for 11:00 a.m. at Leary Field.
