CHICOPEE, MA – Elms College had three student-athletes earn New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week honors for their performance during the week of September 14-20 as announced by the league office on Monday.

Elms freshman field hockey goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, MA) and freshman women’s soccer goalkeeper Molly Corse (Bernardston, MA) were named rookie of the week in their respective sports; while senior women’s volleyball setter Kim Phillips (Randolph, MA) earned player of the week accolades.

Bonavita managed 43 saves for the week despite a 0-2 week for the Blazers. Bonavita faced 41 shots on goal in an 11-0 loss against Smith, and 17 shots on goal in a 4-0 loss against NECC opponent Becker. For the year, Bonavita has collected 103 saves through five games.

Corse tallied 22 saves in two contests helping the Blazers to a 1-1 week. Corse saw 43 shots and faced 28 shots on goal between the pipes allowing only five goals for the week. She helped the team to a 3-2 victory with 10 saves against Mount Holyoke for Elms’ first win on the season.

Phillips collected 3.27 assists per set in a tough 0-5 schedule for the Blazers. Phillips had 49 assists including a match-high 15 assists against Utica this past week. For the 15 sets, she had five kills (0.33 per set), seven service aces (0.47 per set), 18 digs (1.20 per set) and three block assists (0.20 per set).
