LEICESTER, MA – Elms College freshman
goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, MA) turned
away 13 shots but Victoria Sirchia (Goshen, CT)
delivered a pair of goals to help lift Becker College to a 4-0
victory over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon’s New England
Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey opener for both schools
at Alumni Field.
With the loss, Elms slips to 1-4 overall, 0-1 in NECC action,
while Becker improves to 2-5 on the season and 1-0 in conference
play.
Kayla Messina (Somerville, MA) netted the only
first half goal, a shot off a rebound at the 24:01 mark.
From there, Sirchia scored following a penalty corner in the 53rd
minute of play, before Morgan Gass (Avon, CT)
knocked in an unassisted shot just 1:22 later, giving the Hawks a
3-0 lead. Sirchia scored her second goal of the game in the 60th
minute of play.
The Becker defense held the Blazers scoreless as Hawk goalie
Nakita Gosselin (Springfield, VT) earned her first
collegiate shutout.
Elms returns to NECC action, Tuesday, Sept. 22 with a 3:30 p.m.
game at Daniel Webster College. The Blazers then return to Leary
Field on Thursday, Sept. 24 for a non-conference bout with
Westfield State.
