BOSTON, MA – Elms College freshman
goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, MA) turned
away 15 shots, but Wheelock College used a Rachel Robohm
(North Eastern, MA) goal and assist to help the Wildcats
secure a 2-0 victory over the Blazers in Thursday evening’s
New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey game at
Winsor Stadium in Boston.
With the loss, Elms falls to 2-8 overall, 1-3 in league action;
while Wheelock improves to 3-8 on the season, 3-1 in conference
play.
Robohm netted an early goal, scoring at the 7:47 mark to give
Wheelock a quick 1-0 lead. The Wildcats fired 18 shots in the first
half, but Bonavita collected 10 of her 15 saves during the frame to
keep the score at 1-0.
Wheelock kept its offense steady in the second half, registering
17 shots in the second stanza. Bonavita and the defense again held
the Wildcats off the board until Robohm found Despina
Savvoulides (Norwalk, CT) who netted the squad’s
second goal in the final minute of play, setting the score at
2-0.
Robohm led the offensive effort, recording 13 shots, while three
other players finished with five shots.
Elms returns to NECC action when it travels to Bay Path on
Saturday, Oct. 10. Game time is set for 11:30 a.m. in Longmeadow,
MA.
