Westfield State Defeats Elm’s Field Hockey, 6-0
CHICOPEE, MA- Elms College freshman goalkeeper
Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, MA) recorded 35 more
saves in her phenomenal first year campaign, but it was Westfield
State junior Alicia Gardner’s (Athol, MA)
two first half goals that helped put away the Blazers in a 6-0 loss
Thursday afternoon on Leary Field.
The loss drops the Blazers to 1-6 overall while the Owls improve
to 4-3 overall with the victory.
Westfield senior Kate Moss (Auburn, MA) added a
goal in the first half fed by sophomore Jessi Gould
(Canton, MA). Gould recorded two assists on the day.
Freshman Kalin Billert (Center Conway, NH) blew a
shot past the Elms defenders for her first collegiate goal, late in
the game.
It was a quiet day for Elms offensively, but Westfield
couldn’t contain senior Tommie Lafond (Hatfield,
MA) on a drive downfield that resulted in a shot on goal
in the second half.
Elms returns to Leary Field on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7:00 p.m. for
a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) bout with Bay Path
College. They will continue NECC play Saturday, Oct. 3 at Wheelock
College in Boston.
