POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Elms College freshman
goaltender Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, MA) was
sensational between the pipes, turning away 30 shots, but Vassar
received a pair of goals from Jessica Lance (Enfield,
CT) to help lift the Brewers to a 4-0 victory over the
Blazers in Saturday afternoon’s non-conference field hockey
contest.
With the loss, Elms College moves to 1-1 on the season while Vassar
improves to 1-2 overall and advances to the championship game of
the Betty Richey Tournament.
Elizabeth Annis (Princeton, NJ) found the back of
the net on a flip from Madeline Rooney (Amherst,
MA) to kickoff the scoring, before Lance scored on a
breakaway down the middle, and then again unassisted to give the
Brewers a 3-0 edge.
Jordan Friedmann (Chicago, IL) rounded out the
afternoon’s scoring when she knocked a shot past Bonavita
with just over a minute remaining in the contest.
Lance paced the Brewer offense with 16 shots.
Vassar out-shot the Blazers 45-0 in the game.
Elms College returns to Betty Richey Tournament action Sunday,
Sept. 13 against Manhattanville College in the consolation game.
The contest is slated for a 10:00 a.m. start.
