LONGMEADOW, MA – Elms College senior
Danielle Boyer (South Hadley, MA) scored what
proved to be the game-winner as the Blazers earned a hard-fought
2-1 victory over Bay Path College in Saturday morning’s New
England Collegiate Conference (NECC) field hockey game at Ryan
Field.
With the win, Elms improves to 3-8 on the season, 2-3 in
conference action; while Bay Path remains winless at 0-9 overall,
0-5 in NECC play.
Last week’s field hockey player of the week, junior forward
Andrea Ramsdell (Gardner, MA) got things going for
Elms early, controlling a pass from senior forward Tomie
Lafond (Hatfield, MA) and placing the ball in the back of
the net, giving the Blazers a 1-0 lead at the 3:05 mark.
Elms scored again when Boyer corralled a deflected shot and beat
goalkeeper Samantha Berrios (New York, NY),
extending the lead to 2-0 at the 10:28 mark.
The Wildcats cut the lead in half just before halftime when
Jessica Priestly (Middleboro, MA) made a long
drive down the field and then passed the ball inside to
Lindsie Lavin (Feeding Hills, MA) who scored,
bringing the score to 2-1 at the 33:03 mark.
The teams played a scoreless second frame as the Wildcats
registered four shots to Elms’ one in the second period.
Berrios and Blazers’ goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita
(Agawam, MA) finished with one save each in
Saturday’s contest.
Elms returns to non-conference action on Thursday, Oct. 15 when
Anna Maria comes to town for a 7:00 p.m. game at Leary Field.
