POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Elms College freshman goalkeeper Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, MA) collected 15 saves, but Manhattanville received a goal from six different players to help lift the Valiants to an 8-0 victory over the Blazers in Sunday morning’s consolation game at the Betty Richey Tournament hosted by Vassar.

With the loss, Elms College falls to 1-2 on the season, while Manhattanville improves to 2-3 overall.

Bonavita earned 12 of her 15 saves in the first period, but the Valiants were able to score five times in the opening period, highlighted by two goals from Alyssa Nardone (Closter, NJ).

Darby Webber (Walpole, MA) who assisted on a first half goal by Sarah Mason (Glen Falls, NY), scored in the 44th minute of the contest to give Manhattanville a 6-0 lead. Kayla Meenan (Warminster, PA) capped the scoring with a pair of goals in the 47th minute and then again in the 57th minute of play.

The Blazers managed only three shots (two on target), one each from senior forward Tomie Lafond (Hatfield, MA), junior midfielder Heather Keith (South Hadley, MA), and junior forward Andrea Ramsdell (Gardner, MA). Valiant net-minder Melissa Barry (North Kingstown, RI) stopped both attempts.

Bonavita and senior midfielder Kaitlyn Graham (Paxton, MA) were named to the Betty Richey All-Tournament squad.

Elms College returns to Leary Field on Thursday, Sept. 17 when it hosts Smith for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
