Men’s Golf Completes Fall Season at NEIGA Championship

BREWSTER, Mass. – The Elms College men's golf team came in 31st out of 35 teams at the 2012 New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship held at the Captains Course in Brewster, Mass. on Sunday.

Due to the impending threat of Hurricane Sandy, the championship has been shortened from 36 holes to an 18-hole event. One hundred and seventy-one golfers from Divisions I, II and III competed.

The New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) has been in existence since 1934 and includes 47 member colleges and universities in New England and New York and is considered to be the oldest and largest college golf tournament. It is unique in that Divisions I, II and III compete together.

There was no overall champion declared as teams played on two different courses (Port and Starboard) so champions were crowned in each.

Elms was led by junior Tyler Cudnik (Hampden, Mass.) who shot an 82 on the day, while sophomore Nick Smith (Enfield, Conn.) was three strokes behind at 85 and senior Phil Rurak (Wilbraham, Mass.) four strokes behind at 86. Sophomore Alison Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) rounded out the squad with a round of 96.

Elms will continue its 2012-13 season in the spring.
