Men’s Golf Finishes Tied for Eighth at the 2012 ECAC Championship

BERNARDSTON, Mass. – Elms College sophomore Nick Smith (Enfield, Conn.) finished tied for 11th overall individually with a two-day score of 161 (80, 81) and the Blazers posted an overall score of 686 to finish tied for eighth overall at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship at Crumpin-Fox Club co-hosted by Springfield College.

Taking the crown at this year's ECAC Division III New England Men's Golf champion was Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) with a final score of 630. Jamie Jackson led his team to victory tying for first in the tournament with a combined score of 152 for the weekend. Jackson's teammate Brandon Mader, finished third just two strokes behind with a 154. Western New England's Patrick Donahue also shot a 152 to tie for the individual lead.

Husson University finished a close second for the second consecutive year with a total score of 645. Lance Bernier and Greg Pike both ended their weekend tied for fourth overall with a score of 157.

Rounding out this year's championship rankings was Western New England (third), Endicott College (fourth), Nichols College (fifth), Springfield College (sixth), Castleton State (seventh), Amherst College and Elms College tied for eighth, Westfield State (tenth), Wentworth Institute of Technology (11th), Newbury College (12th), SUNY Colbeskill (13th), and MCLA (14th) respectively.  

Blazers' senior Phil Rurak (Wilbraham, Mass.) placed second for the team with an overall score of 165, followed by junior Henry Fall (Harpswell, Maine) (170), freshman Lana O'Connor (East Longmeadow, Mass.) (190) and junior Tyler Cudnik (Hampden, Mass.) (196).

Elms concludes its fall slate on Saturday and Sunday Oct. 27-28 at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship.
