Men’s Golf Wins Blazers Invitational

GRANBY, Mass. – Elms College senior Phil Rurak (Wilbraham, Mass.), junior Henry Fall (Harpswell, Maine) and Rhode Island College's Tim Leigh (Somerset, Mass.) each shot a one-over-par 73 to earn a triple share of individual medalist honors, and the Blazers earned a team score of 309 to win the Blazers' Invitational on Wednesday afternoon at Westover Golf Course in Granby, Mass.

Rhode Island finished in second place with a team score of 311 and Emmanuel College totaled a 325 to place third. Westfield State University finished fourth (329), Castleton State College (331) and Anna Maria College (331), Franklin Pierce University followed with a 334, Newbury College (336), Nichols College (343), The Sage Colleges (346), MCLA (355), Becker College (358), Worcester State University (372), Daniel Webster College (391) and Mitchell College (397) completed the 15-team field.

Anchormen golfer Kyle Harper (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Castleton State's Bryan Fitzgerald (Shelton, Conn.) turned in rounds of 76 to finish in a tie for fourth place and round out the top five individual finishers.

One of the major highlights of the event was a hole-in-one on the fourth hole by Castleton State's Daniel Hogan (Burlington, Vt.). Hogan finished with a 41 on both the front and back nine to finish with a round of 82 for the event.

Blazers' junior Tyler Cudnik (Hampden, Mass.) carded a 39 on the front nine and finished the final nine with a 41 to score 80 and in a tie for 11th place overall, while sophomore Nick Smith (Enfield, Conn.) registered an 83 to lift Elms to its winning score of 309.

Elms' junior Kyle Simard (Thorndike, Mass.) carded a round of 82 and freshman Lana O'Connor (East Longmeadow, Mass.) notched an 85 and scored as individuals. 

Elms is back in action on Wednesday, October 3 at Emmanuel College at 12:00 p.m.
