Men’s Golf Places Third in Rain-Shortened Trinity College Invitational

HEBRON, Conn. – Elms College sophomore Nick Smith (Enfield, Conn.) tied for individual medalist honors and the Blazers finished third overall during this weekend's Trinity College Invitational that was shortened by nine holes due to inclement weather.

The two-day invitational, which started at Tunxis Plantation Country Club in Farmington, Conn. on Saturday, ended at Blackledge Country Club in Hebron, Conn. on Sunday.

Invitational host Trinity's A and B teams earned first and second place overall with scores of 446 and 461 respectively, while Elms finished third overall with a team mark of 470.  Western New England University (fourth) finished two strokes behind the Blazers (472) with Nichols College placing fifth with an overall score of 473 to round out the top five in the 12-team field.

Smith, who carded a round of 36 on Saturday, followed that with a team-low round of 75 on Sunday to notch a score of 111 which was good enough for the share of the individual lead with Nichols' Colin Whitney.

Juniors Henry Fall (Harpswell, Maine) and Tyler Cudnik (Hampden, Mass.), and senior Phil Rurak (Wilbraham, Mass.) each notched rounds of 39 on day one, while Fall registered a second-round score of 77 to finish with a combined score of 116 and place tied for 13^th overall. Cudnik added an 80 and Rurak shot an 85 on day two to notch combined scores of 119 and 124, while sophomore Alison Cowles (East Longmeadow, Mass.) (41-88) and senior Dan Costello (Brookfield, Conn.) (43-86) each registered rounds of 129.  

Elms returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 15-16 at the Middlebury Invitational beginning at 1:00 p.m.
