Men’s Golf Places Fifth at ECAC Championship

HAMPDEN, Mass. – Elms College junior Philip Rurak (Wilbraham, Mass.) and sophomore Henry Fall (Harpswell, Maine) each shot a team-best 76 and the Blazers posted a combined score of 311 to finish fifth overall at the 2011 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) men's golf championship on Sunday afternoon at Hampden Country Club.

Salem State University won the event with a score of 297 while Husson University recorded a score of 298 to finish second. Western New England University (304), Endicott College's (306) Elms (311), UMass-Dartmouth (312), Suffolk University and Nichols College (319), Springfield College (321), Castleton State College (324), Westfield State University (330), Johnson & Wales University (335), Wentworth Institute of Technology (339), Sage Colleges (340), Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and SUNY Purchase finished with scores of 343 to round out the 16-team field.

Salem State's Nick Zolotas was the individual medalist, notching a two-under-par 70 to help pace the Vikings to the win.

Blazers' sophomore Tyler Cudnik (Hampden, Mass.) added a round of 78, while sophomore Kyle Simard (Thorndike, Mass.) chipped in with an 81 to give Elms an overall score of 311. Freshman Nicholas Smith (Enfield, Conn.) was just one stroke behind Simard with an 82 as the Blazers' fifth golfer.

Elms returns to action on Saturday and Sunday Oct. 8-9 at the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship.
