Men’s Golf Tied at 15 After Day One of Duke Nelson Invitational

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Elms College junior Philip Rurak (Wilbraham, Mass.) and sophomore Henry Fall (Harpswell, Maine) each carded rounds of 78 to help the Blazers post a day one score of 324 at the two-day Duke Nelson men's golf invitational hosted by Middlebury College.

Skidmore College opened play with a team score of 296 to lead the 24 team field, while Springfield College (300) and Salem State University (304) are in second and third place respectively. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and host Middlebury finished day one just a stroke behind the Vikings and own a share of fourth place.

Salem State's Nick Zolotas registered a one-under-par 70 to earn top individual honors after day one.

Rurak and Fall both shot a 38 on the front nine and followed with 40s on the back nine to post their team-low rounds of 78, while junior David Pianki (West Suffield, Conn.) carded an 83 to finish third for the Blazers.

Sophomore Kyle Simard (Thorndike, Mass.) contributed an 85 as Elms' fourth scorer, while freshman Nicholas Smith (Enfield, Conn.) followed two strokes behind with an 87.

Elms will compete in round two of the Duke Nelson Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 18 with tee-off set for 9:00 a.m.
