Men’s Golf Wins 2011 Blazers Spring Invitational

GRANBY, Mass. – Elms College freshman golfer Henry Fall (Harpswell, Maine) carded a team-low round of 76 and classmate Kyle Simard (Thorndike, Mass.) finished a stroke behind (77) to help the Blazers to a team score of 320 and capture first place honors at the 2011 Blazers Spring Invitational hosted by Elms College at Westover Golf Course in Granby, Mass.

Elms placed three players in the top 10 overall to help pace the Blazers to victory. Rhode Island College finished in second with a combined score of 328, while Westfield State University shot a 329 to place third. Sage College (338), Castleton State College (353), Franklin Pierce University (358), and Anna Maria College (362) rounded out the seven-team field.

Westfield State's Tyler LaBonte was the individual medalist with a fantastic round of 73 on the strength of a 34 on the back nine to shoot one-over-par for the course. Fall finished second overall, while Simard garnered third place honors.

Sage's Zach Meade and Rhode Island's Kyle Harper were each one of five players to total rounds in the 70s with a 78 and 79 respectively in the field of 37 golfers.  

Blazers' sophomore Phil Rurak (Wilbraham, Mass.) registered a 37 on the front nine and followed with a 43 on the back nine to score 80 and earn a share of sixth place overall, while senior Andrew Sullivan (West Springfield, Mass.) and junior David Pianki (West Suffield, Conn.) each carded rounds of 87 to highlight Elms' tournament winning squad.

Freshmen Tyler Cudnik (Hampden, Mass.) and Edward Innarelli (Ludlow, Mass.) tallied rounds of 81 and 91 respectively, while sophomore Kyle Panek (Belchertown, Mass.) scored a 96 to round out Elms' gold squad.
