Men’s Golf Finishes In Tie For Sixth at Johnson & Wales University Spring Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Elms College sophomore Phil Rurak (Wilbraham, Mass.) shot a team-best round of 75 to lead three Blazers in the 70s during day two action as Elms finished in a tie for sixth place at the Johnson & Wales University Spring Invitational.

Salem State University won the tournament with a combined score of 620, the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth placed second with a score of 628, while New York University and Western New England College (WNEC) finished in third with a score of 630. Husson University carded a total mark of 634 to round out the top five. Johnson & Wales and Elms tied for sixth with combined scores of 637 each, while Nichols College (640), Babson College (652), Rhode Island College (656), Endicott College (662), Providence College (668), Worcester State University (674), Castleton State College (692), University of Southern Maine (693), Suffolk University (694), Anna Maria College (695) and Wentworth Institute of Technology (703) rounded out the field. The Wildcats' blue team did not finish.

Salem State's Nick Zolotas earned individual medalist honors for the two-day event carding a two-day score of 148 thanks to a pair of 74s, Johnson & Wales' Steve LeDonne (150) finished in second place overall. Nichols' Joshua Paulhus was the individual winner in round two with a two-over-par 73 and placed third overall with a tally of 152 for the two rounds.

Elms' freshman Henry Fall (Harpswell, Maine) finished fifth overall with a two day score of 154 (rounds of 76 and 78 respectively), while freshman Kyle Simard (Thorndike, Mass.) notched a 158 on the strength of a 76 in day two action to finish in a tie for 14th place overall.

Rurak's 75 on day two landed him a share of 31st place (162), while freshman Tyler Cudnik (Hampden, Mass.) registered his second straight 84 to finish with a two-day score of 168.

The Blazers are back in action on Tuesday, April 19 at Worcester State. Tee-time is set for 10:00 a.m.
