Blazers Place Second At MCLA Men's Golf Quad Match

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Elms College freshman golfer Kyle Simard (Thorndike, Mass.) carded a team-best round of 75 to help pace the the Blazers to a second place finish with an overall score of 316 in Thursday afternoon's men's golf quad match hosted by Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA).

Host MCLA won the four-team event with a total score of 309 followed by Elms (316). Westfield State University tallied a score of 324 to finish in third while SUNY Cobleskill finished one stroke behind the Owls with a 325.

MCLA's Shane Ortega (Pittsfield, Mass.) earned his second straight medalist honor, firing a one-under-par 70 to pace the Trailblazers to the victory.

Elms' sophomore Anthony Roberts (Ludlow, Mass.) finished four strokes behind Simard with a round of 79 while sophomore Phil Rurak (Wilbraham, Mass.) and freshman Tyler Cudnik (Hampden, Mass.) each registered scores of 81. Senior Andrew Sullivan (West Springfield, Mass.) rounded out the squad with an 85.

Elms returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 29 when it hosts its second Blazers Invitational of the fall season. Tee-time is set for 11:00 a.m. at Westover Golf Course.
