Men's Golf Leads By Nine Strokes After Round One At NECC Championship

LEICESTER, Mass. - Elms College sophomore Phil Rurak (Wilbraham, Mass.) carded a two-over par 72 to finish first overall and help the Blazers to a team score of 306 and a nine-stroke lead after round one play at the 2010 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's golf championship hosted by Becker College at Leicester Country Club.

Elms' top score of 306 was followed by Springfield College (315), Babson College (316), host Becker (344), Daniel Webster College (347), Mitchell College (379) and Newbury College at 417.

The Blazers placed all four of their scoring golfers in the top 10 as freshmen Henry Fall (Harpswell, Maine) and Kyle Simard (Thorndike, Mass.) each registered rounds of 76 to finish in a tie for fifth, while sophomore Anthony Roberts (Ludlow, Mass.) notched a first round tally of 82 to finish in a tie for 10th. Senior Andrew Sullivan (West Springfield, Mass.) registered an 87 to round out Elms' squad.

The Blazers, winners of the 2010 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship (Oct. 2-3), will look to complete its NECC title run with second round action set to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10 at Leicester Country Club.
