CHICOPEE, MA – Nichols College senior Shawn Santos (Agawam, MA) earned individual medalist honors with a round of 2-over par 73 to help the Bison claim team medalist honors in Tuesday afternoon’s nine-team Blazer Invitational hosted by Elms College at Chicopee Country Club.

Nichols had all four of its scoring golfers place in the top 16 of the 44-player field en route to a score of 310. Franklin Pierce (319), Brandeis (320), Worcester State (330) and Anna Maria (331) rounded out Tuesday’s top five teams.

Santos shot an impressive 35 on the front nine and followed that with a 38 on the back nine to seal his Blazer Invitational victory. Worcester State junior Bob Bruso (Auburn, MA) cashed in with a round of 75 to finish second on the day.

Elms College junior Andrew Sullivan (West Springfield, MA) carded a 5-over par 76 to lead the Blazers and claim a three-way share of third place.

Freshman Daniel Costello (Brookfield, CT) and David Pianki (West Suffield, CT) also competed well for the Blazers, shooting rounds of 85 and 91 respectively.

Nichols’ freshman Nick Deni (Enfield, CT) shot a 76 for the round and was followed by Pat Pio (Somers, CT) who shot a round of 79. Joe Gallagher (Hopewell Junction, NY) finished with an 82 on the day.

Emmanuel completed the first-ever golf tournament in school history with an overall score of 385 and a share of eighth place.

The Blazers return to action on Friday, Sept. 18 when they travel to Nichols. Tee-off is slated for 12:00 p.m.
