CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College freshman golfer Philip Rurak (Wilbraham, Mass.) carded a six-over par 77 to finish second overall and help the Blazers to a victory at the men's golf 2010 Blazers Invitational at Chicopee Country Club on Friday.
Worcester State College's Bob Bruso (Auburn, Mass.) finished with a four-over par 75 to claim individual medalist honors.
Elms totaled a top score of 319 to finish first, while Worcester State notched a 326 to place second. Westfield State College finished third (332), Franklin Pierce University placed fourth (341), Becker College came in fifth (365) and Mitchell College rounded out the six-team invitational with a score of 391.
Bruso scored a 36 on the front nine and followed with a 39 on the back nine to claim top individual honors. Rurak shot an equally impressive 37 over the first nine holes and added a 40 on the final nine.
Blazers' junior Andrew Sullivan (West Springfield, Mass.) and Westfield State's Brett Williamson (Ludlow, Mass.) each shot 39s on the front and back nine to finish in a tie for third with overall rounds of 78.
Elms' freshman Anthony Roberts (Ludlow, Mass.) hit an even 40 on both the front and back nine to score a round of 80.
Freshman Dan Costello (Brookfield, Conn.) rounded out the Blazers' top four scorers with a tally of 84.
Elms concluded its 2010 spring season with three invitational wins.
