Lesley University Outlasts Women’s Volleyball, 3-2

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Elms College senior outside hitter Stacy Croteau (Agawam, Mass.) and junior outside hitter Christina Martin (Chicopee, Mass.) combined for 26 of the team's 36 kills, but a 16-kill effort by Kayla Henry (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) helped pace Lesley University to a hard-fought 3-2 (25-22, 21-25, 25-18, 19-25, 15-11) victory over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's volleyball match.

With the loss, Elms slips to 5-11 on the season, 0-1 in NECC action, while Lesley improves to 3-8 overall, 1-0 in league play.

Trailing 1-0 in the match, Elms edged the Lynx in the second set to even the contest at 1-1 before opening up an 11-2 lead before Lesley mounted a run that earned them a 25-18 win in the set and a 2-1 lead in the match.

The Blazers rallied jumping out to a 16-10 lead in the fourth stanza before posting a 25-19 win in the frame to force a fifth set.

The final set saw Lesley take a slim 7-6 lead before three straight Elms miscues extended the cushion to 10-6. A Lynx ace and two kills from Henry brought Lesley's lead to 14-11 before Danielle Johnson (Waterford, Conn.) capped the match with her 10th kill of the contest.

Croteau finished with 16 digs and four service aces in the loss for the Blazers, while Martin notched 14 digs.

Freshman libero Caitlyn Larvey (Greenfield, Mass.) totaled 12 digs, while senior setter Jennifer Rego (Fall River, Mass.) dished out 30 assists.

Kaitlyn Miller (Leesport, Pa.) registered a match-high 33 assists and added 10 digs, while Rachel Frederickson (Marston Mills, Mass.) secured a match-high 23 digs. Megan Ortwein (Shanghai, China) chipped in 18 digs in the winning effort and amassed nine kills.

Elms returns to NECC action on Tuesday, Oct. 4 when it travels to Regis College for a 7:00 p.m. match in Weston, Mass.
