Framingham State University Swings by Women’s Volleyball, 3-0

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Elms College junior outside hitter Christina Martin (Chicopee, Mass.) downed eight kills and recorded a team-best 12 digs, but Framingham State University's Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, Mass.) blasted 10 kills to help pace the Rams to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-16) sweep of the Blazers in Wednesday evening's non-conference women's volleyball match.

With the loss, Elms slips to 4-7 on the season, while Framingham State improves to 8-5 overall.

Elms' senior setter Jennifer Rego (Fall River, Mass.) paced the offensive efforts, handing out 20 assists, while senior outside hitter Stacy Croteau (Agawam, Mass.) terminated a team-high nine balls and collected five digs in the losing effort.

Blazers' sophomore middle hitter Rachel Cowan (Ellington, Conn.) belted five kills on nine swings (.556 hitting percentage) and added a solo block.

Framingham State was led by Fernandes' 10 kills. Ashley Nee (Whitman, Mass.) followed with six kills and four solo blocks, while Kayla Bertand (Agawam, Mass.) added 15 digs in the win.

Elms returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 24 when it hosts Mount Holyoke College and Castleton State College for a non-conference tri-match beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Picknelly Arena.
